On September 27, 2017, MBBB attorney John Carroll received the “2017 Catalyst for Change” award at the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute’s (MLRI) 3rd Annual Catalyst for Change Award Reception. Throughout his 40 years as a trial attorney, John Carroll has maintained his commitment to serving those who cannot afford legal representation. Since starting his legal career at South Dakota Legal Services where he worked on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Indian Reservations as a staff attorney, he has never ceased in his mission to help people. He has handled pro bono cases for the Boston Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers Project and has volunteered at the Catholic Lawyer’s Guild’s St. Francis House. John’s interest in promoting “access to justice” is reflected in his work with the Massachusetts Bar Association through positions on various councils, task forces, committees, and boards as well as on the Board of Directors of Greater Boston Legal Services. John also served as Chair of the Equal Justice Coalition, devoting himself with the utmost care and attention to increasing funding for civil legal aid. John is tireless in his quest for justice and is now serving as an Access to Justice Senior Fellow, and as Chair of the Commission of Judicial Conduct, as well as being active in several other organizations. We congratulate John Carroll on this outstanding and well-deserved recognition of his critically important work and unparalleled commitment.
