Leadership

Our Attorneys Taking the Lead

Boston Magazine, in conjunction with the Law & Politics Publication Group of Minneapolis, has named the majority of our firm's attorneys to its September 2004 publication of "Super Lawyers." The designation was for the top 5% vote-getters in a general survey mailed to over 37,000 attorneys across Massachusetts. Included as Super Lawyers were Leo Boyle (Top 100), Peter Black (Plaintiff Product Liability), John Carroll (General Litigation), Michael Bogdanow (Appellate) and Brad Henry (Class Actions).

Additionally, Leo Boyle and Michael Bogdanow were featured in two articles published in a separate issue of Super Lawyers put out by the Law & Politics Publication Group. Leo, for his work while President of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, was commended in a full page article as "A Trial Lawyer's Gift to the Nation." Michael, who is also a well-known author, artist and musician, was commended in a full page article for his versatility and range of accomplishments.

Leo Boyle was recognized by Lawyers Weekly USA as one of ten "Lawyers of the Year" in 2001 for his leadership as President of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks. According to Lawyers Weekly USA:

"As president of the Trial Lawyers of America, Boyle, a well-known Massachusetts litigator, moved with lightning speed to preempt any snickering about lawyers taking advantage of the Sept. 11 tragedies. Graceful, articulate and sincere in calling for a moratorium on lawsuits, Boyle, who practices with the firm Meehan, Boyle, Black & Bogdanow, was instrumental in lending ATLA's unprecedented support to the federal Victim Compensation Fund."

Boyle also received the 2001 David S. Casey, Jr. Consumer Advocate Award from the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego at their annual meeting for his work on behalf of the victims of September 11.

Peter Black has served on the Leadership Council of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association.

John Carroll is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA) House of Delegates.

Michael Bogdanow - is a former Co-Chair of the Litigation Section of the Boston Bar Association (BBA). He is also a member of the Joint Bar Committee on Judicial Appointments.

As a representative of the plaintiffs' medical malpractice bar, Karen Ristuben participated in a roundtable discussion focused on medical error accountability, patient safety, peer review confidentiality, and the civil justice system as it relates to medical negligence.

Brad Henry - continues in a leadership position as a National Deputy Section Coordinator in the Federal Bar Association (FBA).

Suleyken Walker was recently appointed to serve on the Boston Bar Association's task force on the right to counsel in civil cases, and as a member of the BBA's Public Interest leadership Program.  Ms. Walker is chair of the Boston Bar Association's New Lawyer's Section pro bono committee, and serves on the Association's legislative advisory board.
